Airbrush Help For Beginners
Airbrush Problems
Iwata Airbrush Repair Service
Jan 27th
Last year I was a bad girl.
I let all three of my airbrushes fall into disrepair. I have three so that I always have a back-up one if one of them is broken, but, apparently that only works if you send the for repair when the need it. Whoops!
In the past, when my airbrushes were not functioning well, I was always able to get them up to snuff myself. Thorough cleaning and soaking usually did the trick. But not this time. I done some major damage over the years to them – seals were leaking, one needle was damaged, and I More >
Liquid Frisket Fail
Jan 16th
I just have to share this because it is FUNNY!
I sat down to with the intent of painting a strawberry and decided that I was going to use my liquid frisket to mask off the seeds in the flesh. So, I pull it out and shake it dilegently, open it up and look what I got!
It was one huge solid mass and it was the consistency of a marshmallow. The worst part was when I tried to put it back in the container to throw it out without stinking up my “studio”, it burped, bubbled and farted. I laughed and More >
In Airbrush (and art) Mistakes are Part of The Process
Mar 4th
About a year ago a friend asked me to airbrush a mural that he could move with him from apartment to apartment that depicted the punisher. His one stipulation was that it HAD to be life size. Everything else was up to me.
This project, for some reason was the project from hell … it was so simple, but I screwed up SO MANY TIMES!! Looking back, every mistake I made is sort of funny …. I mean seriously, do I have a brain?…. and that is why I am posting this now. It’s just to funny not to share so More >

Help! There are bubbles in my airbrush paint cup!
Feb 11th
Bubble in your paint well!
Why does this happen?
Bubbles appear in the cup when there is something blocking the airflow out the front of your brush.
In fact, you can prove this to yourself by filling your cup full of water, placing your finger over the nozzle cap, and then slowly pressing down and pulling back the trigger. This will cause the water to bubble in your cup (and is a great way to clean your paint well out too!)
But you have bubbles without placing your finger over the nozzle, right? So something else must be blocking the More >

Is Your Airbrush Spitting?
Feb 11th
If you’re experiencing airbrush spitting, I am sorry to say, the problme is more than likely you and not your airbrush…
Don’t worry though – it is easily fixed!
Spitting happens when air is not allowed to flow through the airbrush at all times … the bad habit that people tend to get is “POPPING” the trigger on and off between strokes and that habit leads to lots of SPLATS!
SPLATS happen because when airbrush paint is being supplied on to the needle either through gravity feed or siphen feed and the air is what makes it atomize and “jump off” on to More >
Airbrush Super Lube!!
Feb 11th
Airbrush Super Lube is a wonderful product If you are finding that your airbrush needle is not sliding as smooth as it once did.
All you do is apply the tiniest bit on the needle, rub it along the length and re-insert the needle into your airbrush. Rock the trigger back and forth a few time and your back in business!
When I say a little bit – I really mean it. I have had the two tubes shown above (the big one is maybe 1/4 ounce) for over 3 years!
If you are wondering why you need SPECIAL lubricant… Super More >
What is airbrush tip dry anyway?
Feb 11th
Airbrush tip dry is a fact of life when it comes to airbrush art. You may find yourself asking why paint producers haven’t developed a product that doesn’t cause tip dry…. well, it is not as simple as it sounds.
All paint, whether it is house paint or art paint starts out as powdered pigment. The higher quality the paint, the finer the pigment is ground. House paint has fairly large pigment in comparison to art paint.
To make the pigment “spreadable” they are suspended in a liquid base. That base liquid dries entrapping the powder pigment on to the More >
Airbrush Troubleshoot: Paint Sneeking Out
Feb 11th
This is by far one of the most common airbrush troubleshoot questions that arises with new airbrush artists…. it goes something like this…
My airbrush is leaking paint! When I press down the trigger, expecting only to get air, paint sprays out! Is it broken??
Well let me ease your mind…. your airbrush is likely not broken!
Phew!
There are three reasons why airbrushes “leak” paint from time to time:
- gunk
- needles
- nozzle tips
All three reasons have to do with the needle seating. The needle of the airbrush is tapered so that it fits snug inside the nozzle tip. When the More >
