Airbrush Help For Beginners
Course Correction at Airbrush-Guidance
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about the really tough questions. You know the ones …
“What am I doing with my life?”
“Where is this all going?”
“How am I making the world a better place?”
Ya, those ones.
This is the kind of thinking that always leaves me in a tailspin. Somedays I feel like I lead a double life – my professional engineering life and then my airbrush/website life – and the two are always in constant battle with one another.
It’s these questions that make me feel like I should “just choose already”. Either you are a super successful engineer, or, you are an internet airbrush artist. Unfortunately, because being an internet airbrush artist doesn’t exactly pay the bills, it is always the one that ends up on the mental chopping block.
But here’s the thing …. I LOVE AIRBRUSHING!
I love art, I love the people I have met and helped and built relationships with, I love the pride that I feel when I make something that I never thought I was capable of, I love saving my pennies to attend airbrush events. I love it all and I can’t let it go. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I’d leave my engineering job and do this full time. Hell, I’d do it double time.
I was lucky enough to discover my passion and I feel obligated to pay attention to it!
I was so fortunate to stumble on to airbrushing when I did. It was a time in my life when I really, really needed it. I needed something to look forward to, I needed something to get me out of the bed in the morning and, most of all, I needed something that made me feel good about myself.
What I have realized through this recent bout of soul-searching is that what I love about this website, in addition to the airbrushing part of it, is the thought that I may be helping some lost soul out there discover their passion … and that makes my heart smile.
There are thousands of people just like me who desperately need to find their passion. I remember what it was like to feel passion-less. I know how awful that feels. I want to help make that feeling go away.
So, things are going to change around here…
From this point forward, Airbrush-Guidance has a new mission:
- To remind people that it is never too late to find your passion in life, or, to develop a new one.
- To continually remind people that they are worthy of their artistic and creative desires, and, even if you can’t dedicate your whole life to them, it is still worth pursuing those desires.
- To help people navigate the world of airbrushing by sharing product information, event details, showcasing other artists, and creating a community of people that genuinely want to see each other succeed.
- To help people learn how to airbrush by providing tutorials, answering questions and offering training.
What do you all think of this new direction? Is there anything I should add? Anything you are desperately searching for that I could help with? Let me know in the comments.
Love
Shani

While reading this I thought for one moment you were going to say that you are winding down the website and focusing on that boring engineering stuff
. I love reading blogs and articles when it is clear that the author is passionate about their subject, and this obviously describes your site, so I look forward to your future postings.
As for the Jerry-Maguire-esque mission statement, it sounds good to me.

I appreciate your website and the help it’s been to me. If you really like your engineering job, that’s awesome but if you would prefer following this art passion, you might want to check out the book “48 Days to the Work You Love” by Dan Miller and/or http://www.48days.net. With your combination of talent and desire to help others I know you could make a living at it. Maybe teach airbrushing clinics too.

Thanks for the book suggestion Sara! I will definitely check it out (in addition to the other avenues I am exploring). Some day it’ll all come together. Thanks for the boost of confidence

I like viewing your site for ideas and giving ideas. There is always something to learn and ideas to share. This is your passion / hobby and not your career. As is for most of us a hobby / passion not a career. When a hobby starts paying the bills it is then a career! And without your career to pay for your passion / hobby this site and your guidance would not be. So it is a very nice site for a hobbyist.

I gotta tell you. I picked up an airbrush about a year and a half ago. I had no idea what I was doing, I just knew I loved the look of “airbrushed” anything. I’ve never had an artistic bone in my body but I seem to be doing pretty well with this. My point is this, I wanna thank you for your advice for newbies..everytime I think I stink at this your words give me hope that I can still further myself with this passion. I visit your site more than any other site out there. Keep it up…I, we, still need you.
