Black and White Airbrush Paintings in 10 Steps

The above is one of my airbrush paintings from quite a while ago - long before I started this website - so, I will apologize upfront and let you all know that not every step is shown. However, I think it still may be helpful to show you how I approach black and white portraits. (of course, there are a million ways to do this - there are no right or wrong ways - only the way that works for you! Remember this...

    Airbrush Tutorials: Small, Manageable Bites!

Of all the airbrush tutorials - this is an important one... because rather than being about technique, it's about confidence! While the painting above looks really complicated and difficult, it was not terribly difficult to paint... all I had to do was break it down into smaller, more manageable parts... Part 1 First I came up with a plan ... and sketched it all out. Part 2 The I worked solely on the...

Airbrush Artwork Lesson: People Come in the Strangest Colors!

An important aspect of airbrush artwork is to be able to see colors for what they truly are .... ... I know, I know ... I harp about color theory all the time! But you have to understand that when the colors are right the end result is SO MUCH BETTER! I thought to emphasize my point that I would put together a few examples ... Example 1: Flesh Tones at Their Finest OK... this woman is beautiful... and her...

Fine Art Airbrush Lesson: Black and White Portrait

For this airbrush lesson I will show you how I painted the beautiful woman shown above. Step 1 Using an opaque projector, or some really good drawing skills, trace all the details of the reference photo onto your painting surface. Add as much detail as you have patience for. Airbrush Lesson: My typical "attack" is to divide the tracing into parts. First I outline the major detail (the basic shapes, then I...

    Hi Shani,
Another great video! I’m am new to the airbrush scene and have been reading a lots of information from all sorts of site. So I just wanted to offer a suggestion in regards to cleaning #5. At one of the site I frequent I have read several AB’rs that swear that after cleaning their brush xtra good and it still has problems to disassemble the airbrush completely and soak it in Createx Airbrush Restorer. They say its amazing how much more paint comes out after soaking it in this solution.
Anyway – that’s my ‘pay it forward’ tip. Again, great video…. keep them coming.
PS – check your camera and make sure it is set to auto focus :)

Thanks David …. I’ll have to give that restorer stuff a try! Sounds great! As for the focus, me and my camera hate each other – it’s totally mutual so I don’t feel to bad about it ;)

I bought a pack of 5 different size tiny airbrush cleaning brushes. I noticed you did not use anything like this. Did I buy something that is meant for air guns? It says airbrush cleaning brushes right on the package. Made by CENTRAL PNEUMATIC. May-be they are especially for the $15 airbrush made by the same company. I bought them at Harbor Freight. I figured I would start with a cheap airbrush until I knew what good airbrush I should get.

I am so glad you are here. I took my airbrush apart because it wasn’t working right and it was dirty from an unsuccessful painting of my hat and I couldn’t figure out how to get the trigger button put back together. With the help of your video and another on You Tube I got it done. My hat may not be fit for public but I will hold on to it for painting the inside of the house.
